Scheduled publishing

Scheduled publishing, also called autopublish, publishes a knowledge base automatically at times you choose, so a release can go out without anyone pressing Publish site.

What it publishes

A scheduled publish does the same as a manual one. At the chosen time DocSpade takes the articles that have been saved for publishing, with the navigation, home pages, look, shared content and images, and builds a new version of the site. Private drafts are never included. The new version replaces the live one when it is ready.

Writers can keep working during the day. Whatever has been saved for publishing when the time arrives goes out.

What you set

SettingWhat it means
On or offWhether the schedule runs
Time zoneThe time zone the times are in, for example Europe/London
TimesThe times of day to publish, written as 24-hour HH:MM, such as 09:00 or 17:30

How many times a day you can schedule is limited by your plan. The default is one.

How times are run

  • Each time fires once a day. A time that has already run is not run again.
  • Times in your time zone. If your time zone changes its clocks, the publish stays at the same local time.
  • A missed time is skipped. If a time passes by more than an hour without running, for example because of an interruption, DocSpade skips it. It does not make it up later.

Limits

Scheduled publishes count towards the same 24-hour limit as manual ones. They also have their own, smaller allowance. A scheduled publish that would go over either limit does not go ahead, and DocSpade does not try that time again.

Because they share the limit, schedule fewer times if you also publish by hand often.

When a scheduled time is skipped

A scheduled time does not publish when:

  • a limit has been reached, as described above;
  • nothing has been saved for publishing, so there is nothing to build; or
  • the knowledge base no longer exists.

A skipped time is not retried. The next scheduled time, or a manual publish, goes ahead as normal.

Turning publishing off

If publishing is turned off for a knowledge base, scheduled publishes do not run either.

Seeing what ran

A scheduled release is marked Scheduled in the knowledge base’s releases and in its release history, so you can tell it from one that a person started. See Releases and release history.

Who can set it

Publishers, owners and admins.
