Tutorial: publish your first documentation site
In this tutorial you will go from nothing to a live documentation site with one article. It takes about fifteen minutes.
You will:
- Create an organization
- Create a space and a knowledge base
- Write and review an article
- Add it to the navigation
- Publish the site
By the end you will have a site at a web address you can share.
What you need
An email address you can open.
1. Create your organization
- Open DocSpade and select Register.
- Select the Organization tab.
- Enter your email, an organization name such as
Acme Docs, and a password of at least 8 characters. - Select Create account.
- Open the confirmation email and select the link, then sign in.
You are now the owner of the organization.
2. Create a space and a knowledge base
A space groups related documentation, and a knowledge base is one documentation site inside it.
- Select Configuration in the top navigation, then select your organization in the list on the left.
- Select Create space, enter the name
Product, and select Create space. - Select the Product space in the list, then select Create knowledge base.
- Enter the name
User guide, leave Initial style policy on Inherit space policy, and select Create knowledge base.
You will see the knowledge base under your space.
3. Write an article
- Select Authoring in the top navigation.
- Choose User guide in the Knowledge base list.
- Select the New document icon in the editor.
- Enter the title
Get startedand the slugget-started, then select Create article. - In the editor, write a few sentences, for example a heading called Welcome and a paragraph about what your product does.
4. Review it
- In the review panel on the right, open the Style review tab and select Review content.
- Look at the findings. If one has an OK button, select it to accept the recommended change.
You can skip any finding you disagree with. A review never blocks you.
5. Save it for publishing
- Select Save, then Publish.
You will see Article published. The article is now ready for the next site update. Readers cannot see it yet.
6. Add it to the navigation
- In the Navigation panel, select Add to navigation, then Current article.
- Select Save navigation.
The panel shows Nav saved.
7. Publish the site
- Select Publish site at the bottom of the Navigation panel.
DocSpade builds your site and switches to it when it is ready.
8. Visit your site
Open this address, replacing the parts in angle brackets with the names (slugs) shown in the Configuration list:
https://<organization>.docspade.com/<space>/<knowledge-base>/You should see your Get started article.
What you have learned
