Publish a site

Publishing a site makes the articles you have saved for publishing visible to your readers.

Before you begin

  • You need the Publisher role on the knowledge base, or be an owner or admin. The Publish site button is not shown to anyone else.
  • At least one article must be saved for publishing. See Save an article for publishing.
  • The articles you want readers to find must be in the navigation, and the navigation must be saved. See Write an article.

Steps

  1. Select Authoring in the top navigation, and choose the knowledge base in the Knowledge base list.
  2. If Save navigation is available, select it first, so the navigation is included.
  3. Select Publish site at the bottom of the Navigation panel.

You can also publish from Configuration: select the knowledge base in the list on the left, then select Publish site at the top of the page.

The button shows Publishing… while your request is sent.

Result

DocSpade builds the new version of the site in the background and switches to it when it is ready. Until then, readers keep seeing the previous version. If the new version cannot be built, the previous version stays live.

Your site is at:

https://<organization>.docspade.com/<space>/<knowledge-base>/

The organization, space and knowledge base names in the address are the slugs shown in the Configuration list.

If you cannot publish

  • No Publish site button. You do not have the Publisher role. Ask an owner or admin.
  • A publish is refused because of the limit. A knowledge base can be published a limited number of times in 24 hours. Try again later.
  • An article is missing from the site. Check that it was saved with Publish, not Save draft, and that it is in the saved navigation.
