Organize the navigation

The navigation is the menu readers use on your site. You build it in the Navigation panel in Authoring.

Before you begin

You need the Editor role or higher on the knowledge base. Choose the knowledge base in the Knowledge base list in the Navigation panel.

Add an article

  1. Select Add to navigation.
  2. Choose one:
    • Current article adds the article you are editing. Save the article first.
    • Choose existing articles opens a search. Tick one or more articles and select Add selected.

An article can appear in the navigation only once.

Add a group

A group is a heading that holds other items, such as articles and other groups.

  1. Select Add to navigation, then New group.
  2. Type the group’s name in the tree.

Add an article or item inside a group

  1. Select the plus icon beside the group, labeled Add to followed by the group’s name.
  2. Choose what to add.

Groups can be nested up to 8 levels deep.

  1. Select Add to navigation, then External link.
  2. Enter the Name and the URL. Start the address with https://.
  3. Select Save.

Add a divider

A divider separates sections of the menu.

  1. Select Add to navigation, then Divider.

Reorder an item

  1. Hover over the item.
  2. Select Move up or Move down. An item moves within its own group.

Rename an item

  1. Hover over the item and select Rename.
  2. Change the Name, which can be up to 100 characters. For a link, you can also change the URL.
  3. Select Save.

Renaming an article in the navigation changes only its menu label, not the article’s title.

Remove an item

  1. Hover over the item and select Remove.

Removing an article from the navigation does not delete the article. It is no longer listed on the site.

Save the navigation

Changes to the navigation are not live until you save them.

  1. Select Save navigation at the bottom of the panel. While there are unsaved changes the panel shows Unsaved nav. When it is saved it shows Nav saved.

DocSpade confirms with Navigation saved.

Then publish the site to show the new menu to readers.
